childhood holiday

childhood holiday

When I was much younger than I am now my family would go on holiday to the seaside. We would pack up our car, fill it full of everything except the kitchen sink – literally – and set off as early as we could. It was going to be a long drive.

We had a caravan on a site about two miles from the beach. Personally I could not see the reason why we had to have the caravan on that site. There was no chance of nipping to the beach to play in the sand, paddle in the sea or go beachcombing without it being an epic trip in the car. Now that I’m an adult, I can imagine that the caravan site was cheaper rent for those very reasons.

Now I don’t know if my parents ever had Caravan insurance. Why would I? I was only a child, I think the last holiday we took to our caravan was when I was nine. Insurance was not a top priority for me at that age. But, another thing that comes to mind now is that there was limited incliment weather conditions to affect our caravan site like those ones which are perched right on the cliffs. Our site wasn’t going to be affected by collapsing cliffs and rising waves in a storm. So, I have come to realise that it was a good choice of site.

Thinking about it, the site was actually great. It had its own internal road which me and my holiday friends could whizz around on our bicycles. There was a playground over the other side which I was allowed to go to when I was older, but not when we first started going there, I was much too young then to go about unsupervised. Most important, there was a shop which sold icecreams and sweets where our pocket money would quickly be exchanged for all sorts of sugary delights. They were good holidays, I have fond memories.
